The price difference between Single ended Encoders and Differential Encoders can often lead to some tough decisions. Single Ended encoders are suitable for small machines, over short cable lengths or in quiet environments. Try to use them anywhere else and the result will be a loss of position somewhere in the job. For noisy environments Differential Encoders are a must ....or used to be.
Our Encoder converter connects to a single ended encoder, similar to our encoder adaptor, but this device converts the single ended signal to a full RS422 differential signal before it is transmitted back down the cable to the controller. RS422 differential signals can be carried over much greater distances, and have much improved noise imunity, which is why all our servodrives and controllers are designed to accept a full differential encoder signal.
The Encoder Converter is fully self powered from the encoder cable and requires no other external connections.
